Types
of UK Scholarships
There
are three main sources of scholarship funds for Taiwan students
for higher education in the UK. The Overseas Research Scholarships
(ORS), the BTCO Scholarships (known as Chevening Scholarships
in other parts of the world) and scholarships given by individual
institutions. Many universities have some scholarship money
available for Taiwan students. In addition to this UKEAS have
in the past provided scholarship money. Details of UKEAS scholarships
for 2001 entry will be announced at a later date.
The
ORS are given to overseas students who are going to undertake
a PhD at a UK institution. They are for outstanding students
with research potential and are given on merit after a panel
of experts has examined the student's academic record and
research. The student needs the support of the institution
to apply for an ORS. Detailed information of ORS can be found
on the website www.cvcp.ac.uk/orsas.html.
UKEAS have a record of successfully assisting students to
apply for ORS.
The
BTCO Scholarships are full tuition for Masters level courses
in certain subject areas and are also given on merit. Students
must send in an application and then the successful ones are
interviewed by a panel of experts. Students must have applied
to and been accepted by a UK institution before they apply
for a BTCO scholarship. The deadline is March 30th, 2001.
UKEAS also have a fine record of helping our students apply
successfully for BTCO scholarships. For a full list of BTCO
scholarships check out this link ---------------.
University
scholarships vary both in availability and in value. Lists
are available from UKEAS offices, on this web site or you
can access the university home pages for more details. UKEAS
have successfully helped students apply for institutional
scholarship for several years now.
In
September 2000 thirteen UKEAS students received scholarships....
