• SOAS, University of London

    Established: 1916

Introduction

A niche school with some remarkable programmes in a great central London location. This small institution rubs shoulders with UCL, the British Museum and the University of London Library in the academically bustling Bloomsbury district. World class at what they do, you should not be looking at SOAS if your interests are in subjects like general business or marketing.

If, however, you want to focus on the languages, culture and development of locations in either Asia or Africa, then you have found the place for you. Experts on eastern religions rub shoulders with language specialists and musicians. A true academic melting pot at the heart of London.

SOAS is not an easy place to get into for international students - their language requirements are very high for example, and the location is a blessing and a curse. But, if SOAS is for you (and you will know whether it is or not), it is worth reaching those standards to be educated at a remarkable place.
