School Introduction

Each year more than one hundred boys and girls from all over the world join the International College at Sherborne, Dorset, UK. They do so as the first step towards a successful school and university education in the United Kingdom.
The International College (IC) is Englands original international study centre. Although owned by Sherborne School, the College is a separate school, accredited as a member of the Independent Schools Council, by the Independent Schools Association. It is for boys and girls aged between 11 and 17. The British Council has accredited the quality of the English language element of all its courses.
The International College aims to be the best possible starting point for boys and girls from non-British, non-English speaking educational backgrounds, who wish to join the English educational system.

The College is the only one of its kind in England. It has been specially built, on its own separate campus, to accommodate up to 160 girls and boys in fully residential education. The maximum class size is 8 students, and all of its teachers are trained, and most qualified, in teaching English as a foreign language, as well as being expert in their own subject of Mathematics, Science, Geography, Business Studies etc.

The College aims to place students in traditional schools after one year at the International College. However, 14 year olds are required to stay for two years to complete the two-year GCSE/IGCSE course. 15 or 16 year olds with a good knowledge of English may take the one-year GCSE/IGCSE option.
